Dr. Tess Mauricio, MD, FAAD is a Board Certified Dermatologist from Stanford University Medical School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCSD and is a past President of the San Diego Society of Dermatological Surgery. She is known worldwide as “America’s Favorite Dermatologist.”
March 10, 2015This is an interesting question posed recently by The TODAY Show, and it’s not limited to dentists. Many other types of doctors have tried to make some quick side cash doing what a Dermatologist does, but do they know as much as they should? The truth is there's much more to diagnosing, treating, and consulting in cosmetic dermatology than being able to fire a laser and make an injection here or there. You wouldn't go to your OB-GYN and expect them to be an expert in LASIK, nor would you expect your optometrist to perform a root canal. Experts are experts for a reason and it’s worth it to seek one out, especially when it comes to your health and body. Rest assured that if we recommend a treatment, it is with one of the world’s top Dermatologist’s stamp of approval.
June 1, 2015Summer’s right around the corner, the weather’s great, and people are spending more and more time outdoors here in sunny San Diego. Most people know by now how important it is to use sunscreen, but here’s a dermatologist’s reminder: it’s absolutely imperative! Harmful rays from the sun cause a myriad of problems: from premature aging, wrinkles, and spots, to the dreaded skin cancer.A youtube video called “How the sun sees you” went viral late last year. In it, the filmmaker used an ultraviolet camera to show invisible damage and changes to the skin of ordinary passers-by. While not a strictly medical or scientific exercise, the results would give anyone pause. We’re lucky that we live in a day and age in which we are aware of the dangers and have tools available to mitigate them. Not only do we have excellent topical sunscreen available at our clinics (Marini Physical Protectant SPF 45), but we also have Helioplus, an oral supplement that can play an important role in keeping your skin healthy on those nice sunny days.
July 3, 2015Can skinny jeans and tight fitting clothes be dangerous? A silly question perhaps, but in some cases the answer is yes! Recently the story of an Australian woman who had to be hospitalized because of muscle damage, swelling, and nerve blockages in her legs after squatting for an extended amount of time in her tight denims has spread like wildfire. Dr. Tess was invited to be on KTLA in Los Angeles to talk about this phenomenon.

Dec 2, 2015From the article at mckesson.com:“Did you know that as many as 33 percent* of people with diabetes will have a skin disorder caused or affected by diabetes? These problems are sometimes the first sign that a person has diabetes.Fortunately, most diabetic skin conditions can be prevented or easily treated if caught early. Some of these problems are skin conditions anyone can have; however, people with diabetes tend to experience these more commonly. Feb 28, 2016The “Any And Everywhere” blog recently featured the author’s experience seeing Dr. Tess in our LA/Glendale clinic. The feature is unique because it’s actually a food blog by a woman of color based in LA. There’s a medical reason that the “woman of color” part matters: many people are suprised to learn that skin types of different ethnicities can actually react differently to various treatments, especially when it comes to darker skin and lasers. As a person with “ethnic skin” herself, Dr. Tess is especially experienced with skin of color.CLICK HERE to go to the “Any And Everywhere” blog to see what the author thought of Dr. Tess.

July 15, 2016Studies show some women do not have the ability to enjoy sexual experiences - and actually have difficulty achieving a real orgasm. They may even have pain during intercourse.
